Westfield Chatswood is undergoing a major redevelopment to transform the Centre into a vibrant destination for fresh food, fashion and dining. Our task was to do something creative with the 34m hoarding that would excite and intrigue passers-by, whilst illustrating a good sense of what is to come. Global Playground is the brand positioning for Chatswood so what better shape to depict both global and playground than the simple circle. With a nod to pop art we used the huge canvas to present the offerings in the style of minimal dot paintings – the idea being that there is more to Westfield Chatswood than meets the eye. The result would be a beautiful abstract aesthetic up close, and the reveal of a visual delight from across the road. To add a further dimension to the design, we applied reflective film to select dots to catch the light of passing cars at night.
